Note:
Wouterus Verschuur was a renowned Dutch painter celebrated for his exceptional skill in depicting scenes involving horses, landscapes, and rural life. He received training as a pupil under Dutch painters Pieter Gerardus van Os and Cornellis Steffelaar. Later, Verschuur himself became influential in the training of Anton Mauve, a leading member of the Hague School.
Verschuur’s fascination with horses and their interaction within landscapes and alongside people became a hallmark of his work. He was highly skilled in capturing the dynamic movement, light, and details of these animals, often depicting them in various settings such as barns, farmyards, and equestrian events.
