The present lot depicts a scene from the history of the Dukes of Burgundy belonging to the House of Valois – most likely the Battle of Mons-en-Vimeu in 1421. Philip the Good, also called Philip III of Burgundy (1396-1467), was Duke of Burgundy from 1419 until his death. In 1421 he finds himself in the middle of a battle near Abeville. Jean Luxembourg was torn from his horse and taken prisoner in battle.
