As the son of Johannes Reekers (1790-1858), a teacher at the Haarlemse Teekenacademie, Hendrik Reekers became a pupil of his father and Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os. In 1843 Hendrik Reekers entered the Academie of Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and became known for his still life and hunting pieces. Nowadays, his work can be found in the Teylers Museum (Haarlem) and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam).
