Verveer was a successful painter from The Hague and was one of the prominent artists of Dutch Romanticism. He was regularly awarded prizes and tributes and took part in numerous international art exhibitions. Initially Verveer mainly painted harbour views and river landscapes, but later on also started painting cityscapes, village views and fishing scenes.
