N.B.:
The originally Frisian painter Miedema lived in Rotterdam for most of his life where he painted mainly seascapes and river views inspired by the city of Rotterdam and its environs, the Frisian coast and the Zuiderzee. His works have a recognizable style that heralds the transition from the Romantic School towards the Hague School. Miedema also was a teacher at the Academie voor de Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam, where he tutored H.F. Boot and M. Richters.
