For many years the Dutch royal family visited the Italian coastal town of Porto Ercole, in 1959 Prince Bernhard decided to have a villa built there. He named the summer residence after his favorite animal: l’Elefante Felice (the happy elephant). The Dutch royal family spent many holidays in the villa on the Tyrrhenian Sea.
