A walk under the cherry blossom, Kyoto
Oil on panel, 15.2 x 23.8 cm
The japanese cherry or sakura only blooms for a short period in spring and symbolises the transience of life. Traditionally this is celebrated by the Japanese in a festivity called Hanami Matsuri. Ribera was also captured by this enchanting sea of flowers and recorded it on this panel.
