Jan Cremer
(Enschede 1940)
Ballerina (1958)
Signed l.r.
Oil on paper, 79.7 x 62.3 cm
Provenance:
Galerie 20 (Mr. Felix Valk), Arnhem (inv. no. G 99)
N.B.:
This painting was made by Cremer in the autumn of 1958, when he lived in Paris for the first time and was working in the Rue Santeuil. The ballerina is a recurring theme in the work of Cremer, as his mother (‘a temperamentful Hungarian’) was a ballerina. The ballerina depicted here however was his girlfriend, Astrid.
