Jacques Coquillay achieved a reputation with his sculptures of female nudes: serene and sensual beauties. In 1960 Coquillay conluded his education at the l’École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with flying colours. He found his inspiration in the sculptures of Greek Antiquity and depicted the diversity of human nature. His powerful command of material resulted in a balanced outcome, somewhere between psychology and sculpture. By way of sharp observation of the model he was able to express the spiritual, while at the same time creating contours that play with the fall of the light.
