Gerrit Lundens was a Dutch painter known for portraits, genre works, still lifes and copies of old masters, the most notable of which is his copy of the Night Watch in the collection of the National Gallery in London. Another copy is in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and demonstrates that the painting’s original composition was originally larger. Pieces of the painting were cut off on three sides when it moved from the Kloveniersdoelen to Amsterdam’s city hall in 1715.
