Coffee pickers were ladies who inspected imported shipments of coffee beans from the Dutch East-Indies and selected the unsuitable beans. Seated next to each other at long tables they had to make long hours of hard work. Breitner often recorded them on paper, usually just before or after working hours, when they were walking home in a good mood chatting and making jokes.
