The reverse with the annotation La plage de Zandvoort, E. Koster, Hollande. The painting probably came into existence in the period 1858-1878, when Everhardus Koster lived in Haarlem for an extended period. In 1858 he was named museum director of the Paviljoen Welgelegen in Haarlem, the precursor of the current Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
