This lot is an early work by Eugène Brands. It was made in the same period that Willem Sandberg, former director of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, who had already set his eye on Brands during the war, invited him to participate in the exhibition ‘Jonge Schilders’ (Young Painters) in 1946.
