A gilt bronze Buddha Shakyamuni
China, Ming dynasty, 17th century
Buddha Shakyamuni, born in the sixt century B.C. in contemporary Nepal, is seated in vajrasana on a lotus base placed on a stand with three feet. His right hand is slightly raised in vitarkamudra. The left hand resting on the lap. He is dressed in an undergarment and a mantle covering both shoulders and falling down to the base. The head turned slightly to the left and with contemplative expression, curved eyebrows, urna, hooked nose, smiling mouth and long earlobes. The waved hair in a ushinisha. The throne with traces of red laquer.
