A Thanka, embroidered silk with green Tara
Mongolia, 19th century
Besides the traditional painted Thanka Mongolia also produced Thanka’s that were completely embroidered in various colours of silk. These precious items were gifts by wealthy Buddhists to the monastery. This is such an embroidered work dating from the 19th century depicting a green Tara.
