A Dorje
Tibet, 12th/13th century
A very early and rare bronze 9 pronged Dorje. The design of this Dorje is different to most others, normally each prong would be the protruding tongue of the Makara head coming together in a point around the central prong. This Dorje is made up out of two layers of 4 prongs, one made up out of the trunks of the Makara and one layer made up out of ther protruding tongues all coming together around the central prong.
