A Dhyani Buddha crown
Mongolia, 19th century
Made of layers of paper and natural pigments. The recesses with seated Buddha’s decorated in the Khyungbur technique in gold painted relief. The whole on a cord for fixing the crown on the head. Such crowns were worn by abbots in monasteries during special rituals.
