Note:
Filarski stayed in Switzerland and Italy (Lago Maggiore) for extended periods between 1912 and 1917. Filarski arrived in Davos at the end of August 1916, carrying only a toothbrush as his luggage. During this period, Filarski swapped Impressionism for a more modern and abstract style. This work clearly shows Filarski’s transitional period: a modern abstraction in the foreground contrasts the predominantly Impressionistic mountain mass in the background.
