N.B.:
Gerrit Komrij (1944-2012) is one of the most versatile writers in the Dutch language. He made his debut as a poet, was a critic and reviewer, compiled a number of much talked about poem anthologies, translated much literary work (including Shakespeare) and wrote essays and novels. He was known for his colourful and virtuoso use of language and was a feared polemicist. Komrij made a name with the general public as a fearless critic who wasn’t afraid to make enemies. He was chosen as the National Poet from 2000 to 2004.
