Clasina Neuman followed in the footsteps of her father Johan Heinrich Neuman (1819-1898) and studied at the ‘Rijksnormaalschool voor Teekenonderwijzers’, which was situated on the top floor of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. As a progressive female artist she took part in numerous exhibitions, including the ‘Nationale tentoonstelling van vrouwenarbeid’ (National exhibition of women’s work) in The Hague in 1889. Neuman also was a valued member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and the ‘Schilder- en teekengenootschap Kunstliefde’ in Utrecht.
