Claas Hendrik Meiners is considered one of the earliest painters of the Oosterbeek School. Trained by B.C. Koekkoek, he regularly travelled to the southern Veluwezoom from 1853 onwards. There, a group of painters had gathered who made the landscape of Wolfeze and Oosterbeek the subject of their paintings. In contrast to the vast landscapes of the Romantic painters, Meiners opted for the intimate atmosphere of the forest, where the impression of the atmosphere and mood was pivotal. Presumably this work reveals the wooded area in the vicinity of Oosterbeek.
