(Brescia 1807 – Gussano 1880)
Interno di cucina con figure
Signed and dated 1871 m.l.
Oil on canvas, 45.9 x 35.9 cm
N.B.I:
During his lifetime Angelo Inganni was widely praised for his veduti of Milan, but he was also praised for his genre works and his depictions of ‘ordinary folk’. Characteristic for his work from the 1850’s onward is the rendition of candlelight and hearth fires and their reflections on the depicted figures. The work offered here is a fine example of this. A comparable work by the hand of Inganni which is considered a later work is depicted in Angelo Inganni: Chiesa di S. Lorenzo, Gussago – 25 aprile – 2 giugno 1975, Comune di Gussago, Regione Lombardia & Banca S. Paolo, 1975, page 135 (ill.).
