Depicted here are Willem Tensen and his mother. Tensen was the inn keeper and owner of a pub in Schellinkhout. In this village close to Enkhuizen he also founded the local kolf association ‘Sta Vast’ in the year 1899. In 1886 Tensen won the first Dutch kolf championship, earning him 100 guilders.
The identically named painting in oil on canvas is in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (object No. A57).
