Franciscus Willem (‘Frans’) Helfferich was a Dutch painter who worked in the style of the Hague School – later with strong influences from Impressionism. Initially, Helfferich mainly worked in the style of The Hague School and mainly painted landscapes. He was strongly influenced by Jacob Maris (1837-1899), whose work he also copied. Later he used a looser brushwork and made many ‘frivolous’ Impressionist representations of modern city life in The Hague.
