Note:
Verschuur maintained a strong friendship with fellow horse painter Willem Carel Nakken (1835-1926), whom he likely met at Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. In 1867, they embarked on a study trip to Normandy, and their shared love for travel led them to revisit the region at a later time. During their journeys, they explored various towns together, including the enchanting port cities of Le Havre and Honfleur.
