Note:
Van Looy registered, on May 22 1884, for the competition for the Prix de Rome, an encouragement prize for young artists. In October of that year, he was awarded the prize. Subsequently, on February 6 1885, Van Looy departed for Italy and Spain with his painting materials, where he would travel for two years. Since Capri was already an inspirational source for many artists during that time, Van Looy also visited this island.
