NB:
Two very similar paintings by Jacob Maris are in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, one of which is titled Wooden bridge over a canal near Rijswijk dating from 1878 and the other, titled The bridge dating from circa 1879. There is also a similar work to be found in The Frick Collection in New York City, named The Bridge dating from 1885. Maris was quite happy with this composition himself, for he also created etchings named Sail with bridge, or course in mirror image.
