Israels did not only paint women, including the well-known seamstresses and models, but he also painted various portraits of gentlemen, such as the gentleman with bowler hat and mustache depicted here.
This is possibly a portrait of Georg Hecht (1883-1941), the spouse of Emilie Gerzon and the director of the fashion house Gebroeders Gerzon in Amsterdam.
