NB:
Herman Gordijn is a painter and graphic artist. His work occupies a unique position in modern Dutch painting, that of lyrical realism. One important aspect is the disturbing description that, once seen, is difficult to forget. Even so the strong effect lies not so much in the picture, but in a measured use of composition, rhythm, colour, light versus dark, treatment of paint and handwriting. The form in abstract imagery hereby has a larger eloquence than the content of the depiction. This applies not only to the paintings and commisioned portraits, but also to drawings, etchings, woodcuts and lithographs.
