Characteristic of this auction is the diverse and international character of the lots on offer. Not only well-known Dutch artists are discussed, but the catalog also gives a good impression of the diversity of the general art movements of the past hundred years.
The auction starts with a selection of classic works of art, of which the three works by Hans Bayens are extremely decorative. In particular lot 11, Circus horses with their dresser, shows the artist's skill with a very fleeting brushstroke and lets you imagine yourself in the circus stables. Valuation € 1,500 – 2,500.
Next to Kees van Dongen, various foreign artists are represented, including Henri Matisse, Emil Nolde, and Yves Tanguy. The latter has applied his recognizable technique of Indian ink diluted with water in lot 16. This work, belonging to the sought-after period of his oeuvre from the 1920s, has an attractive valuation of €8,000 – 12,000.
Another famous Frenchman is featured with lot 19, a typical work by André Derain. who died as a result of a car accident. The former owner bought Dame aux Chiens to Kunsthandel EJ van Wisselingh & Co, this is now offered to you with a valuation of € 4,000 – 6,000.
Among the Dutch artists you will find a very exceptional piece by Dirk Smorenberg. Not only are the water lilies depicted by him very striking, but they also have a frame carved by the artist. This one Shifted squares from 1965 therefore belong to the epitome of the Dutch Zero movement. Valuation € 4,000 – 6,000.
Then some pop art artists are discussed, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Tom Wesselmann. The latter is an internationally sought-after piece, if only because this ink drawing served as a study for the well-known etching and aquatint Monica Nude with Matisse from 1990. Valuation € 5,000 – 8,000.
