444 - The Spring Sale

30 March 2014

The catalog starts with a beautiful collection of silver utensils, including the partly gilded tobacco tin of the Amsterdam master Hendrik Keijzer from 1763. Lot 9 concerns a beautiful, richly decorated pot with a stylized flower as the lid knob. Valuation € 3,500 – 5,000.
Lot 79, the beautifully signed grandfather clock, comes from Rotterdam. It is known that the maker Willem Gibb had a workshop on the Blaak from about 1710 to about 1770. In addition, Gibb was also chieftain of the St. Eloys guild. Valuation € 3,500 – 4,500.
This auction also offers you a special choice of mirrors, such as lot 86, a possible Italian wall mirror, made around 1760. The exuberant ornamentation and the beautiful old mirror glass provide a beautiful looker in your interior. Valuation € 2,000 – 3,000.
Through a wonderful selection of furniture, most of them from the 18th century, the catalog leads you to lot 118, a great great Russian icon from the 19th century. The depiction of the Anastasis, a double theme with the Descent into Hell and the Resurrection of Christ, is very finely painted and extremely colourful. Valuation € 4,000 – 5,000.
This catalog also contains a large number of lots of Chinese and Japanese porcelain. Lot 164 consists of a lovely pair of coffee pots with lids from the Qianglong period. These conical pitchers, decorated in blue and white, are inspired by an English silver prototype from around 1735, but the bird's head-shaped spout can be traced back to a Meissen example from the same period. Valuation for these two € 2,000 – 3,000.
But the pair of Japanese 'byobu' folding screens from the late Edo period also immediately catch the eye because of the quality of the depictions of a dignitary with a hunting party. Valuation for this lot (192) € 9,000 – 10,000.

Of similar size and originating from Java is lot 222, depicting 'Gajasimha', the mythical mythical beast with trunk, raised arms and bulging eyes. This impressive stone statue dates from the 15th/16th century and is valued at €3,000 – 4,000.
For the fashion lover, we offer lot 333 – 336, four beautiful vintage ensembles by Fong Leng. It is quite clear that the Amsterdam Museum has recently devoted an entire exhibition to this fashion queen, when one judges the quality and artistry of this very wearable clothing. Valuation per ensemble € 500 – 800.

Some of the artworks will be auctioned without a minimum price. You can recognize this by the valuation € 1 – 1.
